July 20, 2005 -- Salmon fishing is good in the Manistee and Ludington area in water up to 200 feet. . Some steelhead are coming from further offshore. Watch for the fish nets in the Ludington area.

July 12, 2005 -- The waters of Grand Traverse Bay have been producing good catches of whitefish. Also some walleye and bass are being caught off Traverse City. In the waters off Manistee salmon are being taken by anglers willing to who are on the water by sunrise or before. Similar conditions exist near Onekama, Arcadia and Frankfort. Salmon fishing is also reported to be good near Ludington, Muskegon, and Holland. Good numbers of perch are coming from the waters off South Haven.

May 14, 2005 -- Some salmon have been caught close  to shore in waters up to 20 feet in the area near Saugatuck and at Ludington. There has also been some action in deeper waters (out to 140 feet). At Muskegon and Grand Haven brown trout are coming from waters under 20 feet along the shoreline. A few salmon are being taken from waters up to 150 feet. Some good catches of perch have also come from waters near Grand Haven. Near St. Joseph and Benton Harbor salmon have come from waters less than 100 feet.

May 2, 2005 -- Perch have been taken near the harbor entrance at Manistee, Grand Haven and Holland with a few walleye mixed in. Brown trout fishermen at Ludington have also landed a few walleye. In the southern lake off Benton Harbor a mixture of steelhead, brown trout and coho have been taken by those trolling near shore waters.

April 26, 2005 -- This is basically a generic report. There are a few charter boats in the water and they have made a few trips with varying results but the season is only beginning. This time of year in most of the Great Lakes steelhead and brown trout are in the waters near shore and can be taken by trolling close to shore. Smelt and suckers are making spawning runs and can be taken in and near the mouths of streams. Steelhead are also still in many streams. Walleye are just completing their spawning and the white bass are beginning. As the waters continue to warm the fish should begin feeding more actively. Be sure to check the fishing regulations for your area since seasons and creel limits can vary by area and time of year.

Some good catches of perch have been reported from the Grand Haven area.
