July 20, 2005 -- Fishing has been good for chinook and steelhead in the waters off Oak Orchard. Trollers  are taking salmon off Oswego and Mexico Point in waters over 100 feet deep while brown trout are in waters not as deep. Smallmouth bass are in the rocky areas closer to shore. Sandy Pond has good fishing for largemouth bass for those who can master the weeds. In the Olcott area large salmon and some smaller brown trout are in closer to shore.

July 12, 2005 -- Good catches of salmon, steelhead and brown trout are coming from the waters off Olcott. Bass are in the waters nearer shore. Northern and rock bass are in the harbor areas. In the lower Niagara River walleye and bass are providing the best action. In the upper Niagara bass and northern pike are primarily around the islands.

May 14, 2005 -- Salmon and brown trout are coming from waters as deep as 70 feet from the mouth of the Niagara river eastward along the New York shoreline. Perch an bluegill are coming from the harbor areas. Lake trout and steelhead are being taken in the lower Niagara River. In the upper Niagara River fishing is best for northern pike and perch. In the Oswego area and in Mexico Bay steelhead and brown trout are in the near shore waters and salmon are further offshore in depths up to 100 feet. Those fishing in Sandy pond are finding good fishing for bluegills and crappie. Salmon in the Point Breeze area are over slightly deeper water.

May 2, 2005 -- Those fishing the waters of Lake Ontario in the Oak Orchard area have been taking a mixture of brown trout, steelhead and coho by trolling close to shore.

April 26, 2005 -- This is basically a generic report. There are a few charter boats in the water and they have made a few trips with varying results but the season is only beginning. This time of year in most of the Great Lakes steelhead and brown trout are in the waters near shore and can be taken by trolling close to shore. Smelt and suckers are making spawning runs and can be taken in and near the mouths of streams. Steelhead are also still in many streams. Walleye are just completing their spawning and the white bass are beginning. As the waters continue to warm the fish should begin feeding more actively. Be sure to check the fishing regulations for your area since seasons and creel limits can vary by area and time of year.
